Charitable/Philanthropic Licences

Under the Gambling Regulation Act 2024, the Authority may issue a gambling licence for a charitable or philanthropic purpose which authorises the licensee to provide a relevant gambling activity for a charitable or philanthropic purpose.

The relevant gambling activities permitted are

  • A relevant game, as prescribed under gaming regulations.

  • Pool betting for an event, or a series of events.

  • A relevant lottery.

Certain lotteries may be held for charitable and philanthropic purposes that will not require a gambling licence. Please see the Exemptions page for more information.

Please visit our Licensing Phasing page for updates on when this licence type will open.

It is not envisaged that this licence type will be open for applications in 2025. Therefore charities and philanthropic organisations should continue to apply for licences under the current permit system. When this license type is accepting applications the Gambling Regulator will communicate arrangements very much ahead of time.

  • License - Maximum Relevant Payment - Maximum Winnings
