Identifying Gambling Harm

Many people from all walks of life are affected by gambling harm.

While the majority of people in Ireland who gamble do so safely, it is estimated that, among those who gamble, there are approximately 130,000 adults with a gambling problem. This number increases dramatically when friends and family are considered.

If you recognise the following signs and symptoms seek support:

  • Not able to stop playing.

  • Isolating yourself.

  • Reliving and romanticising gambling experiences.

  • Using gambling to escape negative emotions.

  • Feeling guilty.

  • Borrowing money.

  • Failed past attempts to stop gambling.

  • Taking more and more risks in betting.

  • Thinking you can win.
