Protecting the Public

Protecting the public and consumers is a central part of our role and a key pillar of the Act which governs all our work.

While the majority of people in Ireland who gamble do so safely, it is estimated that there are approximately 130,000 adults experiencing gambling harm.

We are working to reduce gambling harm by

  • Regulating and modernising the gambling, gaming and betting industry.

  • Updating the compliance and enforcement regime.

  • Setting up safeguards for children and other vulnerable people to address the harms gambling can cause.

  • Regulating gambling advertising.

  • Working to prevent gambling from being a source or support to crime.

  • Raising funds for greater awareness and education about gambling harm and addiction.
