FURTHER RESEARCH INTO greyhound exports has highlighted yet another breach in record-keeping relating to exported Irish greyhounds. Greyhound Rescue Association Ireland is concerned, having discovered that a greyhound exported to Pakistan continues to be registered in the Irish Greyhound Stud Book to breeder/owner Seamus McCloskey – architect of the Limerick greyhound track.

A GREYHOUND born in 2012 named Barney Rubble is a perfect example of what can become of greyhounds, exported from Ireland, lucky enough to end up in a rescue centre abroad. Barney Rubble is still registered in the Irish Stud-Book under the name of the owner/breeder, Seamus McCloskey – a partner of Hamilton Architects who, amongst other tracks, designed the Limerick Greyhound Track, opened in 2010, which carries controversies of huge debts, and welfare concerns that led to a re-design of the first bend in 2014. THE RECENTLY released dog control statistics from the Department of Environment, Community and Local Government show a fall in the number of greyhounds destroyed in dog pounds, compared to previous years. Two hundred and three greyhounds, bearing identification tattoos are listed as being destroyed in dog pounds in 2015. However, this does not indicate a rise in greyhounds being homed, or a fall in the number of greyhounds destroyed each year in Ireland. Read more
